WSP Environmental’s Online Solutions team has taken out the prestigious DuPont Australia and New Zealand Innovation Award in the category of Sustainable Services at the awards ceremony held in Sydney on Friday 16 May 2008.
WSP’s Online Solutions team specialise in transforming complex environmental information into user friendly solutions through online platforms. These help individuals and organisations across the world make appropriate and sustainable environmental decisions.
Partnering with Landcare Australia and Banrock Station, WSP developed the online water calculator for the ‘Help us Help the Earth’ Campaign. The calculator allows visitors to http://www.helpushelptheearth.com.au/ to find out how much water they use and how much they could save though a few simple tips.
‘Help us Help the Earth’ aims to reduce Australian household water usage by 10%, saving 105,000 Olympic swimming pools of water!
The Award seeks to recognise Australians striving for excellence. Andrew Sweatman, General Manager for WSP Environmental in Australia, who leads the Online Solutions team says:
“Today, two forces are shaping society: the explosion of the internet and environmental constraints such as climate change. By harnessing the potential of online systems we are able to help society move towards a more sustainable position”.
“Our services make environmental issues easier to understand and help empower others to be able to take actions. We have moved beyond just understanding the problem to taking action.”
The Sustainable Services award was part of the 3rd DuPont Australia & New Zealand Innovation Awards. The biennial DuPont Innovation Awards Program is an Australian & New Zealand independently judged competition, launched in 2004. It is the first year that a Sustainable Services category was part of the awards, making it a unique win for WSP Environmental.
DuPont Australia New Zealand Manager Managing Director, Hutch Ranck commented, “This year’s awards saw seven innovative companies and individuals recognised for their ground breaking innovations, which are set to deliver major benefits to the markets they operate in”, Ranck said.
“The DuPont Award recognises the innovations we have developed in the area of information technology and sustainability and further encourages our work to help expand our services and develop new offerings” said a delighted Andrew Sweatman.
