A 63-year-old pipi collector from Mt Richmond has been fined $4500 and had his four wheel motorbike forfeited in the Portland Magistrates Court this week.

The man pleaded guilty to six charges over three separate days to taking more than the legal allowable catch of pipis and driving his quad bike on Discovery Bay beach.

The accused was placed on a one year undertaking to be of good behavior and ordered to pay $3000 to the Court Fund and $1500 costs to Fisheries Victoria.

His quad motorbike was ordered to be forfeited.

Fisheries Victoria Western Regional Fisheries officer Paul Millar said the man was seen taking more than the legal catch limit of pipis on three separate days at Discovery Bay, between Cape Bridgewater and Nelson, last year.

Mr Millar said the man was intercepted on the third day by Portland Fisheries Officers in possession of 26 litres of pipis.

The catch limit for pipis is five litres per person per day.
